Gas water heaters are the most commonly used water heater models. They heat water twice as fast as electric water heaters do, but the cost of operation is less than half that of an electric model. However, you also have to add in the cost of installing a gas line to your home if you don't already have one. Gas water heaters can be fueled by either natural gas or propane. Gas can also fuel storage type as well as tankless water heaters.
Gas water heaters however involve higher installation costs, and a higher cost of the unit. A gas water heater can cost more than $1000, while an electric model can cost between $500 and $700. Even with these high installation costs, you can make up the cost of your gas water heater in less than a year. Newer federal energy standards now require gas water heaters to be at least 10% more energy efficient than before. To meet these standards, companies have added greater amount of insulation to the heaters, making them up to 4" thicker. This might pose a problem if you want to install your gas water heater in a confined space.

Hi I have a non-working Envirotech ESI 2000 electric water heater that services my master bathroom. I need it fixed or replaced. I am a bit frustrated because the "lifetime" warranty is useless because the company was sold and the aquiring company will not support the warranty or service the product! |
i need a quote for an electric tankless water heater. My current water heater is a 75 gallon capacity. |
